Granite Bathroom Vanity

A granite bathroom vanity is one of the best ways to give your bathroom a luxurious style.

When it comes to bathroom vanities, one of the nicest styles available is granite.  A granite bathroom vanity is a great option for anyone looking to create a modern, yet luxurious look for a bathroom in his or her home.

There are many different colors and styles of granite bathroom vanity options available.  Your first step should be to pick a granite color that complements the rest of your bathroom.  If you have not begun the design process yet, then it is very possible that the color of your granite bathroom vanity will set the styling tone for the rest of the bathroom.  If you fall in to the second category and are not sure what you want your bathroom to look like, only that you want a granite bathroom vanity, then you can choose a safe, neutral color such as an off shade of grey.  You will also want to take into consideration the lighting situation of your bathroom.  If there is a window near by or you will have ample lighting available, then it is safe to go with darker colors.  If you will have limited lighting, however, it is probably a good idea to stick with lighter colors, as a dark granite bathroom vanity will only diminish the amount of light.  Lighter colors are safer, because they work well with any amount of light.

If you own or are looking to purchase granite bathroom vanity furniture, there are a few other things you should be aware of.  While it is not necessary, there is some additional maintenance that should be performed with any granite counter top, regardless of whether it is in the bathroom or kitchen.  A high quality stone sealer should be used to prevent any type of staining on your granite.  This is a highly recommended step, granite stone is porous and has the ability to absorb whatever liquids are placed on it.   When it comes to stone sealers, they can essentially be broken down into two groups: petroleum based stone sealers and water based stone sealers.  While they serve the same purpose in that they repel water and oil, you will get different results with each type.  Petroleum based stone sealer will last longer, however is harder to obtain as it serves more of a heavy duty purpose.

Water based stone sealer can be purchased for under $15 at any hardware store.  A good option is the Aquamix 20372 Penetrating Water Based Sealer for Ceramic Tile and Stone.   This particular sealer is currently being sold for about $10.  Be careful however, because there are stone sealers available in larger sizes (1 gallon and above) that cost about $140.  You don’t need that much sealer, just enough to lay down a fresh coat once every year or two.  We will not go into the details of the actual process, but if you would like to learn more about the actual process of using stone sealer, you can look it up on any do it yourself website or try Googling “using stone sealer.”

A granite bathroom vanity countertop is often thought to be very expensive, but that does not always have to be the case.   An example of a cheaper option is the product line by Pegasus bathroom granite vanity tops, which starts at about $165.  Of course, if you are looking for a higher quality granite vanity top, they offer higher end ones upwards of $890.
